      Berrima Junction zone substation

We are proposing to establish a permanent zone stubstation at Berrima Junction, to help provide safe and reliable power to the people of NSW's southern highlands region.

      Works in your area

      Overview

We’re proposing to establish a new permanent Berrima Junction zone substation (ZS), which involves removing the current temporary Berrima Junction ZS. Berrima Junction is located in the Southern Highlands and is situated between the historic old town of Berrima to the north and Moss Vale to the south. Endeavour Energy supplies power to this area and also operates a field service centre in Moss Vale.

These works will also include installation of a new 33kV feeder from the Moss Vale ZS and re-direction of two existing 33kV feeders from Moss Vale ZS, all within the existing easement.

      The project involves:

      • All site preparation and construction works, including site clearing, civil works, conduits and trenching, transformer bunds, concrete and footings at the Berrima ZS site
      • Installation of a new 33kV feeder from Moss Vale ZS and re-direction of two existing 33kV feeders from Moss Vale ZS, all within the existing easement
      • Construction of a new feeder bay at the Moss Vale ZS, installation of underground/overhead fibre optic cable from Berrima Junction ZS to Moss Vale ZS replacement of approximately 34 poles within the feeder alignment
      • Associated distribution works from the new Berrima Junction ZS

      The need

To meet expected demand, the establishment of a new permanent 33/11kV 35MVA ZS at Berrima Junction is required. The new permanent ZS will supply power to customers within the Berrima Junction Enterprise Growth Area, including a new data centre and industrial areas. The permanent ZS will enhance the supply security and reliability of new developments, by providing a diversified 33kV supply and an associated fibre optic network.

      Review of environmental factors

Endeavour Energy, as the determining authority, approved the project following a robust assessment of project criteria which has ultimately achieved the best balance of financial, technical, community and environmental considerations.

When at the planning stage, the proposed project was subject to a Review of Environmental Factors (REF) approval under Part 5 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, 1979.

The REF included comprehensive assessments on relevant environmental aspects such as noise, visual amenity, flora, fauna, heritage and archaeology, traffic and bushfire risk associated with the proposed works. Endeavour Energy sought community feedback on a draft REF on the proposed project. All comments received were considered.

Following this process, a Decision Statement was issued which approved the construction of the new, permanent Berrima Junction zone substation subject to several construction and environmental management criteria that must be met.
