      What is home electrification?

Essentially, an electrified home is one that replaces any existing fossil fuel devices, like gas water heaters and petrol cars, with modern efficient electric versions.

Ideally,  the electrified home captures all of its own electricity by harnessing the power of cheap rooftop solar and stores excess energy in a back-up battery in the garage, which powers an electronic vehicle.

So, electrifying your home is simply the process of transitioning your home from being reliant on fossil fuels, to being reliant on solar energy.

      Why electrify your home?

The reason is simple: It's cheaper, cleaner and better for the environment.

Australian households currently rely on inefficient energy sourced from conventional fuels like natural gas and petrol - which are both expensive and highly polluting.

If you electrified an Australian home, with solar panels on the roof, a home battery and electric vehicles in the garage and replaced gas appliances with efficient electric ones, the household could save thousands of dollars each year.

      Where to start

There’s six practical things you can do to easily electrify your home. The NSW Government currently has incentives that could help you with the expense of transitioning some aspects of your home electrification.

      Install rooftop solar
      Install a home battery
Swap your gas cooker for an electric one
Replace gas home heating with an electric system
Replace your gas-powered hot water system
Replace your petrol, diesel or gas-powered car with an electric vehicle
