Bi-directional charging

This is a type of decentralised energy generation which enables your EV to feed electricity into the grid during peak demand times, helping to enhance grid stability. Depending on your energy retailer, you might receive a reduced energy bill or get paid (the same way you would with a solar feed-in-tariff), for sending that power back into the grid during peak demand times. By charging your EV battery with cheaper solar or low-tariff electricity, you can save even more.

This allows you to use your EV to power your home. By using the electricity from your EV during times when electricity costs are high, you can lower your energy bills. It can also provide you with a backup source of electricity during outages and help to ensure uninterrupted power during an emergency. Depending on the battery size and your home’s power usage, this could power your home for multiple days.

This term covers both vehicle to grid and vehicle to load. Also, it includes all other situations where EVs are used as an energy storage system. That could include powering electrical tools on a work site or even serving as a power bank to support remote emergency situations.
