Your energy retailer bundles these costs with other energy supply chain charges, into the pricing plans they offer to customers.
As more customers feed affordable solar energy into the grid during the middle of the day, national rules now require tariffs to better reflect how the network is used. This helps to ensure a fairer, more efficient system for everyone.
To support this shift, we’ve introduced time-of-use tariffs for retailers, replacing the single flat rate. Midday charges are now at their lowest ever.
Flat rate tariffs apply the same charge all day. Time-of-use tariffs, however, vary. Retailers pay peak rates when demand is high and lower rates during off-peak times.
This change, guided by the National Electricity Rules and the Australian Energy Regulator, reflects modern energy use and promotes fairer pricing- allowing all customers to benefit from cheap solar energy.
